How many days do I need in Istanbul for a first visit?

We're planning a two-week trip around Turkey. How many days should we give Istanbul?

Four full days is a good minimum. One for Sultanahmet (Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque, Basilica Cistern), one for the Grand Bazaar and Süleymaniye, one for the Bosphorus and Beşiktaş, and one for the Asian side, Kadıköy and Moda.
If you like museums, add a day. Topkapı Palace alone can take half a day.
Don't try to cram everything in. Some of the best moments are just sitting with tea by the water. Leave some unplanned time.
